Absalon
Absalon je rojen v izraelskem
mestu Ashdod. Imel je številne samostojne razstave, med drugim v Künstlerhaus,
Stuttgart (1991), v Kunstverein, Hamburg (1994), v galeriji Chantal Crousel
v Parizu in v Kunsthalle Zürich. Sodeloval je na mnogih skupinskih razstavah,
med drugim na Kasselski Dokumenti (documenta IX, 1992). Absalon je umrl
v Parizu leta 1994 za AIDSem.

Umetnik metaforično ilustrira
boj posameznika z okoljem. Ta posameznik je ujet v mentalne prostore lastne
samote oziroma osamljenosti. Metafora teh mentalnih prostorov so
Absalonove sterilne stanovanjske celice, ki so funkcionalno reducirane
na minimum.
»Absalonove 'celice' so konstruirane
torej za eno osebo, prilagojene njenim tako fizičnim kot psihičnim zahtevam.
(...) V Battaille (1993) vidimo Absalona, kako vstopa v okolico, udarja,
kriči in se bojuje z nevidnimi nasprotniki. Prostor okoli njega je nedefiniran,
bel in prazen. Determiniranost zunanjega sveta potiska človeka v celice/hiše,
kjer je sam sebi dovolj, kjer pa je obenem prepuščen sam sebi. Privatno
dobi paranoiden značaj, Absalonove akcije delujejo skoraj klavstrofobično.«

ABSALON
Absalon was born in Ashdod
in Israel. He held numerous personal exhibitions, among others in Künstlerhaus
in Stuttgart (1991), Kunstverein in Hamburg (1994), and Chantal Crousel
Gallery in Paris and Künsthalle in Zürich. He participated in many group
exhibitions, including the 9th Documenta in Kassel in 1992. He died of
AIDS in Paris in 1994.

The artist metaphorically
illustrates the fight of individual with environment. The individual is
captured into mental spaces of his/her own solitude, or loneliness. The
metaphors of these mental spaces are Absalon’s sterile apartment cells,
which are functionally reduced to minimum.
»Absalon’s cells are constructed
for a single person and adapted to his/her physical and psychical requirements.
(…) In Bataille (1993) we see Absalon striding into the environment, kicking,
screaming and fighting with invisible enemies. The space around him is
undefined, white and empty.
The determinism of external
world pushes man into cells/houses, where he/she is self-sufficient, but
also left to himself/herself. The private becomes paranoid; Absalon’s actions
