Elke Krystufek
Elke Krystufek se je rodila
leta 1970 na Dunaju. Šolala se je na Likovni akademiji na Dunaju. Njeni
mediji so: slikarstvo, fotografija, video in performans.
Krystufek razstavlja od zgodnjih
devedesetih širom Evrope, zadnja leta pa tudi v ZDA: Manifesta 2, Luxemburg,
Bienalle Sao Paolo, Sao Paolo, 303 Gallery, New York , Galleria Il Capricorno,
Benetke (1998), »Generation Z«, P.S.I. (Contemporary Art Center), New York,
»Stoletje žensk«, Bank Austria Kunstforum, Dunaj, »Like nothing you've
ever seen«, Galerija Georg Kargl, Dunaj (1999).
Krystufek že nekaj let z
video-kamero avtobiografsko dokumentira svoje najintimnejše življenje in
posneto daje vpogled širši javnosti. V svojih videih navadno ne inscenira
ničesar, temveč pokaže javno svojo privatnost v odnosu z njenimi spolnimi
partnerji, prijatelji, težave s telesno težo, prehranjevanjem (in bruhanjem),
situacije v kopalnici, na stranišču, v spalnici, praznovanje božiča v krogu
družine, potovanja, obiske, depresije, obsesije etc. Krystufek je celo
objavila listo svojih dunajskih ljubimcev, najbolj pa je razburila umetniško
srenjo z njeno javno masturbacijo na otvoritvi razstave v Kunsthalle na
Dunaju leta 1994.

Video prikazuje Elke z njenim
partnerjem v spalnici. Snemalec je tokrat partner, ne pa sama umetnica.
Vzdušje v spalnici je erotično, obenem pa romantično: glasba, rdeča svetloba,
sveče, zapeljivo oblečena Elke, ki v stilu vzhodnjaških erotičnih praks
nežno zapeljuje svojega ljubimca, ki se ji skozi refleksiven pogovor vse
bolj predaja. Gledalec je vseskozi zaposlen s vprašanjem avtentičnosti
obnašanja »protagonistov« tega neinsceniranega filma, počasi pa se lahko
prepusti opazovanju ljubezenskega rituala, ki je daleč od vsakršne mehanskosti
»običajnega« spolnega odnosa.
ELKE KRYSTUFEK
Elke Krystufek was born in
Vienna in 1970. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. She
is engaged in painting, photography, video and performance.
Since the early nineties
Krystufek has exhibited around Europe, and recently also in the USA: Manifesta
2, Luxembourg; Biennial, Sao Paolo; 303 Gallery, New York; Galleria Il
Capricorno, Venice (1998); Generation Z, P.S.I. (Contemporary Art Center),
New York; The Century of Women, Bank Austria Kunstforum, Vienna; Like Nothing
You’ve Ever Seen, Georg Kargl Gallery, Vienna (1999).
For several years now, Krystufek
has autobiographically documented on video her most intimate life, and
has also shown it to the public. Normally she never designs anything in
her videos, but rather publicly presents her privacy: relationships with
her sexual partners and friends; troubles with body weight and eating (and
vomiting); scenes in the bathroom, toilet, and bedroom; family celebrations
of Christmas; travels and visits; depressions and obsessions; and so on.
Krystufek has even published a list of her Vienna lovers, but the greatest
agitation for the artistic circles was her public masturbation at the opening
of the exhibition in Kunsthalle, Vienna, in 1994.

The video presents Elke with
her partner in the bedroom. This time it is not the artist who operates
the camera, but her partner. The ambience in the bedroom is erotic, but
also very romantic: there is music, red candle light, voluptuously dressed
Elke gently seducing her partner in the manner of Western erotic practices,
while he is gradually giving up to her in a reflective discussion. The
viewer cannot avoid the question about the authenticity of the behaviour
of both »protagonists« in this ingenious film, but then slowly sinks into
watching of the love ritual, which is far from a mechanistic »normal« sexual
intercourse.
