ANASTAZIJA PIRNAT: I CAN’T SAY ANYTHING JUST LIKE THAT
>> On display from 15 April to 4 June 2021.
>> Curator: Neja Kaiser
At her fist solo exhibition entitled I cannot say anything just by the way, the young artist Anastazija Pirnat, the winner of the Koroška, Who Are You? art contest, organized by the Carinthian Students Club and the Kompleks Youth Culture Centre in cooperation with the Ravne Gallery, will present her works created in the past three years.
Anastazija Pirnat is not only interested in the painting itself, but also in the relationship her visual expression establishes with the content that drives its creation, either the mouldy pages of books or analogue photographs from the end of the previous century. The artist starts by processing these contents through the method of negation, with the gradual addition of playful and/or ironic statements. These statements indirectly address the failure of expression through language and question the possible ways of tackling its inadequacy.
Anastazija Pirnat (Slovenj Gradec, 1996) graduated from the Academy of Fine Art and Design in Ljubljana under the mentorship of Bojan Gorenc in 2019 and enrolled in the master’s programme in painting. Her work mostly consists of acrylics on canvas, but she also utilizes the techniques of collage and photography as auxiliary media. She has participated in several group exhibitions, such as Abstraction is at the End of Your Comfort Zone (Equrna Gallery, Ljubljana, 2018), TSUNK – The Triennial of Contemporary Art in Koroška (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška, Slovenj Gradec, 2018), S02E04 (The City Municipality of Ljubljana, 2019) and Young Artists Welcome (DLUM Gallery, Maribor, 2019).
