BOGDAN BORČIĆ: DOORS

>> On display from 19 March to 12 September 2021.

>> Curator: Jernej Kožar

The collection of works by Bogdan Borčić at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška was started at the end of the previous century with the purchase of several works. The collection was significantly enriched by the artist’s donation of 40 works in 2003, to which he contributed 10 additional paintings in 2006. The purchased works and both of the donations form the foundation of the collection of Bogdan Borčić’ works at the Museum. After the artist’s death, his family gave a part of his legacy to the Museum, thus expanding the collection to 330 works, of which there are 314 paintings, 11 prints and 5 sculptures.

At the beginning of 2021, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška published a catalogue for the collection of Bogdan Borčić’s works, which details all the paintings kept by the Museum. Alongside full-page reproductions of his works, the catalogue also includes an introductory text by Jernej Kožar, which discusses Borčić’s work in a monographic form.

The works of Bogdan Borčić are on display permanently at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška. The exhibition’s layout is changed from time to time and in this case, we decided to introduce to the public his extremely important cycle of paintings with the title “Doors”, which has not been exhibited so extensively since 2008.

The cycle entitled “Doors” was created throughout several different periods of Borčić’s creative work. The very first work was the painting “Red Doors” (1963, privately owned), later followed by many more paintings with the same title, a portion of which is presented on this occasion.
