On Tuesday, 18 September 2021, at 7 PM, we invite you to attend the opening of the international group exhibition Beyond Borders at the Gallery of Contemporary Art Celje. The exhibition, which was created as a collaboration between the Center for Contemporary Arts Celje and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška, will first be presented in Celje, and later in December in Slovenj Gradec as well.
The exhibition Beyond Borders provides fragments of thoughts about the influence of borders that determine people’s living space, push them to the margins of society, obstruct a decent life and transform their identity. We would like to establish a space for thought about several border spaces from the past thirty years, in which permanent issues are clearly visible, or in which border-related situations are getting even worse. The artists represent real stories, testimonies by groups or individuals from civil society, whose life was determined by a political border. The exhibitions in Celje and Slovenj Gradec with the common idea provide several conceptual highlights, which are extended or transformed through the selection of the works of artists at each gallery. With an attempt of a flexible contextualization of thematic sections and artistic works, we thus transcend the boundaries of simply physically transferring the exhibition.
The exhibition will be on display at the Gallery of Contemporary Art and Likovni Salon Celje until 5 December 2021, and in Slovenj Gradec from 10 December until 20 march 2022.
