The AU Environment “Libri” is Pino Poggi’s crucial work, marking his transition from smaller formats – the Arte Utile Alphabet and artist’s books – into the world of great sculptures and instalations, called the AU environments. It also marks the end of the “AU Process”.
“Libri” is a large cage (2 x 2 x 6 m), Inside which are three school desks with chairs. The floor, desks and chairs are white. Only a few details reference the artist’s other books, such as the graffitied school desks and the books glued onto them – namely, Poggi’s exhibition catalogue with an introductory text by Enrico Crispolti, “AU Process”. Like other Arte Utile works, “Libri” called upon the viewer to intervene, supplement and modify it. At end of the “AU Process” the artist closed the cage, so that the entry is no longer possible.
