Slovenj Gradec is a town known for its commitment to peace—primarily thanks to the international exhibitions of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška, which between 1966 and 1985, under the auspices of the United Nations, presented socially engaged art with a clear message of peace. This exhibition activity significantly contributed to Slovenj Gradec being awarded the title of “UN Messenger of Peace City” in 1989.
The cycle of exhibitions and events We stand for Peace highlights contemporary perspectives on peace, solidarity, and ethical responsibility through art, theory, and reflection. At a time when the world is once again facing wars, deepening conflicts, growing polarization, and uncertainty, the aim is to create a space for coming together—a space for reflection, dialogue, and active engagement.
We stand for peace.
