TJAŠA RENER: BEAUTIFUL

>> Opening of the exhibition on Thursday, 10 June 2021, at 5.00 p.m.

>> Curator: Jernej Kožar

For the first time after 2013, Tjaša Rener will present her work to the Slovenian public with her overview exhibition of paintings entitled “Beautiful”. In the Ravne Gallery, her portraits of the black inhabitants of Accra will be exhibited – both of her friends and of random passers-by. She paints them in their typical environment doing everyday chores, thus recording the throb of the city and present-day Ghana. At the exhibition “Beautiful”, her ten paintings will bring a glimmer of renewed hope to contemporary obscurantism.

Tjaša Rener has been dealing with the question of belonging for many years. Through her own experience she explores what it means to be an immigrant in a new country and new culture, the reasons for migration, and how to face one’s own emotions, brought about by the new environment and culture. Tjaša Rener has also been cooperating regularly with the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška throughout the years. Among other things, she created the visual image of Koki the Raven, who is the mascot for the Museum’s educational programmes.

Tjaša Rener (1986) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana in 2013 (prof. Bojan Gorenc). She continued her studies at the Department of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Throughout her studies, she was a recipient of the Zois scholarship for gifted students, and in 2012 she won the University of Ljubljana award for exceptional achievements in art. She is a painter and graphic artist. In 2013 she created the artist’s book A Story from Africa. Her art and gallery work links contemporary African reality with that of Europe. Since 2013, she has lived and worked in Slovenia and Ghana.
