Hommage to Tisnikar

The life of Jože Tisnikar ended in 1998 in a tragic road accident, right at a time when he achieved the greatest triumph of his creative work with a large retrospective exhibition for his seventieth anniversary at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška in Slovenj Gradec. Even today, his unique, unrepeatable and inimitable artistic story about a bitter quest for the final truths of human existence remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the creation of new projects, focused on one of the Museum’s central collections called “Homage to Tisnikar”. It was founded by the art historian and former director of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška, Milena Zlatar. In memory of the great painter, the collection combines works created by Slovenian and foreign artists of similar artistic expression: the painters Zdenko Huzjan, Valentin Oman, Zoran Mušič, Vladimir Veličković, Bogdan Borčić, Hermann Falke, Franc Vozelj, Matej Čepin; the sculptors Mirsad Begić and Metod Frlic; and the photographers Herman Pivk, Roberto Kusterle, Dragiša Modrinjak and Tihomir Pinter.
