MIRSAD BEGIĆ
Slovenian sculptor and draughtsman of Bosnian descent, born in 1953 in Glamoč, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He finished primary school in his hometown of Glamoč, and in 1974 he completed secondary art school in Sarajevo. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he graduated in 1979, in 1986 he completed his postgraduate studies with prof. Drago Tršar. In 1982, under the leadership of prof. Anthony Car also studied at St. Martin’s School of Art in London. He lives and works in Ljubljana. Begić is the author of numerous public monuments and portraits in Slovenia, among others a monument to Hugo Wolf and Jože Tisnikar in Slovenj Gradec, Peter Pavel Glavar in Komenda, Franc Sušnik in Ravne na Koroškem, a side door of the Ljubljana Cathedral and a monument to Mayor Ivan Hribar near Novi trg in Ljubljana. His works are kept in museum collections throughout Slovenia, he has exhibited extensively abroad. In 1997 he received the Župančič Award, and in 2000 the Prešeren Fund Award for the cycle Preserving Dreams.
