During its Presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2021, Slovenia will be presented in the Gallery of the European Parliament with a selection of works by painters of the younger and middle generations (Suzana Brborović, Nina Čelhar, Tina Dobrajc, Mito Gegič, Aleksij Kobal, Ana Sluga, Miha Štrukelj, Sašo Vrabič, Uroš Weinberger, Joni Zakonjšek). On the margins of the social and political context of contemporary art and within so-called new figurative art, these artists explore a contemporary artistic expression at the clash of mass media’s visual images and the subjectivity of painting, thus looking for paths towards new utopias of the (uncertain) future. With specific works that highlight the theme of “living in interesting times”, the sculptor Lujo Vodopivec and photographers Uroš Abram and Herman Pivk will also be presented, as well as the works of six Slovenian artists that are already in the European Parliament’s collection of contemporary art and will be included in the exhibition (Jasmina Cibic, Andrej Jemec, Gašper Jemec, Lojze Logar, Arjan Pregl, Drago Tršar). The selection was prepared by the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška in Slovenj Gradec, the exhibition’s curator is Marko Košan.
