ROBERT MARIN: I STILL BELIEVE IN SANTA CLAUS

>> Opening on Thursday March 4 2021.

>> Curator: Jernej Kožar

At the exhibition “I still believe in Santa Claus”, Robert Marin will present 40 of his photographs that were shot in the past four years. In these colour photographs, he documents marginal events and ephemeral phenomena of urban life. Rather than reportage photography, these images represent the snapshot aesthetic with an emphasis on the documentary. His seemingly unframed photography often produces the feeling of unpredictability and immediately draws the viewer into what is happening in the photographs. The brutal reality of these images does not leave the viewer indifferent.

Robert Marin was born in 1984 in Slovenj Gradec, he grew up in Ravne na Koroškem, and is finishing his studies in Sociology of Culture and History at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. He is a self-employed cultural worker who lives and works in Ljubljana. He participated in numerous group exhibitions of contemporary Slovenian photography and in solo exhibitions in some of the most esteemed regional museums and galleries (Museum of Contemporary Art, Ljubljana; Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srbska, Banja Luka; Klovićevi dvori Gallery, Zagreb; Belgrade Cultural Centre, Belgrade). Between 2017 and 2018, he studied under the mentorship of Klavdij Sluban to improve his skills. He is also the co-author of the project Najlepše mesto na svetu (The Most Beautiful City in the World), which he has been creating together with Matjaž Rušt since 2014.

The exhibition “I Still Believe in Santa Claus” in the Ravne Gallery will be the first solo presentation of Robert Marin’s photographic work.
